Seth Littrell has described Mason Fine in glowing terms ever since he arrived at North Texas over the summer.

Littrell said the freshman is calm, collected — and most of all — fearless.

Those traits were on display during the Mean Green’s 41-20 win against Bethune-Cookman on Saturday at Apogee Stadium, especially the fearless part.

Littrell gave Fine the first start of his college career against the Wildcats and saw him respond by leading the Mean Green (1-1) to the first win of the Littrell era. Fine threw for 108 yards and rushed for an additional 46, stats that don’t do justice...

North Texas didn’t need long to recover from a tough night defensively in its season opener against SMU.

The Mean Green played their first game since struggling in a loss to the Mustangs and looked a whole lot better in a 41-20 win against Bethune-Cookman at Apogee Stadium.

“Our defense was awesome,” UNT coach Seth Littrell said. “Those guys were flying around. They didn’t give up the big plays. They...

The duo made the rounds outside of Apogee, meeting fans, taking pictures and drumming up support during a time of transition in UNT athletics.

“When you turn around and see the athletic director at...

North Texas’ quarterback situation changed during a loss to SMU on Saturday. How much it changed is something Seth Littrell will keep a secret until the next time the Mean Green play.

UNT’s new coach said heading into the season senior transfer Alec Morris would start, and freshman Mason Fine could see time depending on the way things played out.

The Mean Green’s plans for Fine are a lot more definitive now. The two-time Oklahoma Gatorade Player of the Year came on late and led UNT on a touchdown drive against the Mustangs that was one of the bright spots in the Mean Green’s 34-21 loss.
