New MBA program introduced at UNT

Students now can get a MBA in business management in 11 months, as opposed to the traditional two-year program.

The degree requires students to be enrolled full time, and the first cohort starts this summer.

It will be a cohort-style system, having all students in the program take the same classes for a year. It includes in-person classes, interactions with business executives and hands-on exercises.

Student wins IBM mainframe contest

The IBM Master the Mainframe contest started with more than 4,000 students and ended with Brian Powers, a senior business computer information systems major, as the top winner.

The competition has three parts and students were eliminated based on their performance in each part.

Each simulates a real-life problem on a mainframe computer, which are used widely in banks and retailers but are rarely taught in school.

Forty students advanced to part three, where Powers was deemed the winner. His prize is a free trip to the SHARE conference in San Jose, California, in March to network with IBM executives, business...

Gift creates accounting chair at UNT

A $1.5 million commitment from University of North Texas alumnus Don Millican and his wife Donna Millican has established the Don and Donna Millican Endowed Chair in Accounting at the UNT College of Business.

Millican, chief financial officer at Kaiser-Francis Oil Co. in Tulsa, Okla., is a 1974 graduate of UNT.
