The University of North Texas is preparing to launch the area's first comprehensive bachelor's degree in retail.The school got the go-ahead from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board to launch the new program in the fall 2016 semester, but many students on campus are already getting excited for the offering.Currently UNT offers programs in merchandising and digital retailing, but Professor Richard Last said this will create a program that teaches students to embrace all facets of the changing retail landscape."You think about North Texas, all the retail here," said Last. Retailers Turn to UNT Global Digital Retailing Research Center for Innovation

DENTON, Texas--From Pier 1 Imports to Sally Beauty to Edgecase, a leading provider of curated product data, big names in the retail industry are turning to the University of North Texas’ (UNT) Global Digital Retailing Research Center (GDRRC) for thought leadership regarding industry changes.

An arm of the UNT College of Merchandising, Hospitality and Tourism, the center is “blazing a trail for digital retail workforce development,” said Garrett Eastham, chief product officer and co-founder of Edgecase, and member of the center’s Think Tank and College of Merchandising, Hospitality and Tourism Board of Governors.
