UNT alumna performs with Cincinnati Pops

The Cincinnati Pops Orchestra under the direction of Pops Conductor John Morris Russell presents two concerts January 9-10 at Cincinnati Music Hall, dubbed I'M EVERY WOMAN, starring three powerhouse vocalists.

Pops favorite Capathia Jenkins returns along with operatic soprano Measha Brueggergosman (who recently impressed Cincinnati Opera audiences as "Bess" in Gershwin's Porgy and Bess) and jazz sensation Tatiana "LadyMay" Mayfield to perform songs made famous by the likes of Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin, Ella Fitzgerald, Marian Anderson, and more.

Lewisville Lake Symphony seeks to expand its outreach

The growing population and rapid development of the communities near Lewisville Lake provide both opportunities and challenges for The Lewisville Lake Symphony, an all-professional orchestra under the direction of Adron Ming that is in its 32nd year.

In keeping with its mission to enhance the quality of life for people of all ages in North Texas through live and inspiring classical music and to educate and support rising young talent, the LLS presents four subscription orchestral concerts each year at the MCL Grand Theater in Lewisville and four free chamber concerts at Trinity Presbyterian Church...

UNT faculty member and alumni receive Grammy nominations

Well, the University of North Texas will be well represented at this year's Grammy awards. They have five alumni and one faculty member nominated. According to the Denton Record Chronicle, they have five alumni and one faculty member nominated. Jazz professor Rich DeRosa was nominated and the band Snarky Puppy is made up of UNT alums so they're nominated as is Don Henley, an alumnus and member of the Eagles. So good luck to them.

A sophomore at Oak Park High School was among 150 students nationwide to earn a spot in the 2015 All-National High School Concert Band.

Ruitao “Ray” Zhang, a clarinet player, performed with the group from Oct. 25 to 28 at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tenn. He is one of seven students in California to play with the band this year.

The ensemble is organized by the National Association for Music Education, said Zachary Borquez, Oak Park High’s band director.

Luther College brass ensembles to perform concert Nov. 3

Luther College's brass ensembles will perform at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3, in the Center for Faith and Life Main Hall on the Luther campus.

The concert is open to the public with no charge for admission.

Luther's brass ensembles include the Horn Choir, Trumpet Ensemble, Trombone Choir, and Tuba and Euphonium Ensemble. The Clarinet Choir will join the brass ensembles for the concert. The concert's repertoire is selected from six centuries of musical resources including transcriptions and original compositions.
