TB Winds, a boutique music shop, now open in Denton

As Tony Barrette strings lights alongside a saxophone at his work station, he explains how he's working to fix the instrument for a high school student in Frisco. 

One piece was missing that normally takes two weeks to get in the shop, but the student needs it back tomorrow. UNT Opera Theatre to close 'Magic Flute' this weekend

Mozart's The Magic Flute is the directing debut of the new Margot and Bill Winspear Chair in Opera Studies, Jonathan Eaton. The opera closes this weekend.

Eaton just joined the faculty of the UNT College of Music as the Winspear Chair, and directing the university's operas is one of his principal tasks.

Qawwali singers to perform rarely-heard music at UNT

University of North Texas College of Music will present a concert of music rarely heard outside of the walls of Sufi Muslim worship spaces at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 2. The concert takes place in the Recital Hall in the music building, 415 S. Ave. C. 

Qawwali singers will perform their sacred music, which began more than 700 years ago as a traditional form to deliver inspirational messages to devotees inside a shrine. The group's concert "Qawwali - Ecstatic Sufi Singers of Pakistan" brings some of the direct descendants of the original Qawwali singers to Denton.
