UNT's music business program ranked by Billboard magazine

Music magazine Billboard named the University of North Texas's music business program one of the top 15 in the country.

The list, which does not rank the 15 schools included, states UNT's College of Music earned a slot because of the new focus on entrepreneurship in music. The program, which launched last year, offers new internships, guest speakers and bi-weekly music entrepreneurship department lectures.

UNT is featured alongside Berklee College of Music, New York University Tisch School of the Arts and the Herb Alpert School of Music at University of California Los Angeles.

UNT piano trio slates free show in series

The University of North Texas College of Music's Center Piano Trio will perform a free concert later this month as part of the Lewisville Lake Symphony's International Chamber Series. The performance is set for 7:30 p.m. March 17 at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 5500 Morris Road in Flower Mound.

The Center Piano Trio is three international musicians of varied concentrations.

Lejing Zhou, a cellist from Shanghai, began playing at the age of 12 and is pursuing his doctorate at UNT.

Hao Miao, a violinist from inner Mongolia, gave his first full recital at age 11 and has studied in Shanghai, Germany and Ukraine....

Vocal band uses spoken word, harmony to build musical ideas

Grammy-winning vocal ensemble Roomful of Teeth will perform next Thursday, March 9, at the University of North Texas.

The 8 p.m. concert is in Winspear Performance Hall at UNT's Murchison Performing Arts Center, on the north side of Interstate 35E at North Texas Boulevard.

Known for incorporating indigenous vocal techniques from around the world into their unique harmonies, Roomful of Teeth's eight members often characterizes their group as a "vocal band." The group is serving as the College of Music's artist-in-residence for 2016-17.

UNT student to teach at summer academy in Iowa

University of North Texas musical arts doctorate student Hannah Leffler will serve as flute teacher and performer for the 35th annual Lutheran Summer Music Academy & Festival, slated for June 26 through 24 at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa.

The residential music training academy serves students grades 8 through 12 from across the U.S. and features band, orchestra and choir, as well as a comprehensive composition, keyboard, and organ program.
