UNT to host visual arts job panel

 The University of North Texas’ College of Visual Arts and Design will host “Jobs in the Visual Arts and Design: Panel and Workshop” from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, March 9. in the Art Building on UNT’s campus, rooms 101 and 223.

Refreshments will be served, and a panel of UNT alumni with experience in the industry will address those in attendance.

Kelly Donahue-Wallace, an art history professor at UNT and the event’s organizer, said although a degree from the College of Visual Arts and Design will serve graduates well, the event is meant to ensure “students know the range of possibilities.”

A Finnish professor will present a lecture about the future of art education at 6 p.m. Monday in Room 223 of the University of North Texas Art Building, 1201 W Mulberry St.

Kevin Tavin teaches international art education and is head of the Department of Art at Aalto University in Finland. He’ll present a heady sounding lecture, “Art and Its Education in Post-Visual Culture.” In his presentation, Tavin explores the fields of art education and visual culture — academic terms that are about what happens in classrooms all over the world and how people and cultures communicate through symbols.

The University of North Texas in Denton is building a 128,354 square-foot addition to the facility housing the College of Visual Arts and Design.

The university says the project will enable the college to house many more of its programs in one location.
