State board approves retailing degree at University of North Texas

You love to shop. Well, guess what? Now you can major in it.

The University of North Texas will be offering a new bachelor of science degree in retailing, reflecting the rapid changes in one of the oldest forms of commerce.

The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board approved the degree last year, and students can declare the major starting this fall.

Several universities offer merchandising degrees and certificates in retail programs, but UNT said its degree is the first in the U.S. to include the three main components of retailing: merchandising, digital and operations.

About 3,000 University of North Texas students will walk across the stage with other graduates from their respective colleges during fall recognition ceremonies Friday and Saturday.

Last spring, UNT opted for a mass commencement ceremony held in May, which features a keynote speaker but doesn’t include the conventional practice of having students walk across the stage one at a time to receive their degrees.
