UNT faculty dance concert to explore identity

University of North Texas Dance Professor Mary Lynn Babcock is at the helm of the upcoming faculty concert, "Through the Narrow Door," next month. 

Student dancers perform Babcock's choreograpy, which  was developed in collaboration with UNT dance professor Whitney Geldon and set to music by UNT graduate Brittany Padilla.

UNT Theatre to open 'Fabulation' this weekend

University of North Texas Dance and Theatre Arts opens its 2017-2018 season with Lynn Nottage's Fabulation this weekend.

In Fabulation, Undine Barnes Calles returns to the poor, childhood home in Brooklyn she swore off 14 years ago. Things were going well for Calles. She'd gotten a degree from Dartmouth, and started a successful career. Choreographer William “Bill” Evans leads rehearsals for University of North Texas dance students in September, in preparation for the faculty dance concert on Feb. 9-12. The concert, “Standing on Shoulders,” will feature original dance works choreographed by guest artist Evans and teachers from UNT’s Department of Dance and Theatre. Performances will be at 8 p.m. Feb. 9-11 and 2 p.m. Feb. 12 in the University Theater, 1179 Union Circle. Cervantes classic with a twist

The University of North Texas presents the classic play The Siege of Numantia by Miguel de Cervantes in November.

The Siege of Numantia, presented by the Department of Dance and Theatre, will run at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 10-12 and 2 p.m. Nov. 13 in the Studio Theater at the Radio, TV, Film and Performing Arts Building, 1179 Union Circle.

The play depicts villagers’ reactions when the Roman army comes into their Spanish town of Numantia in 133 B.C. The play is directed by David Lozano,artistic director of the Cara Mía Theatre Company in Dallas.
