UNT professors earn grant to help local English language learners

Two University of North Texas researchers earned at $2.7 million grant from the National Professional Development Project SUCCESS to help train bilingual teachers. 

The five-year grant will provide professional development for all 245 dual language and content teachers in the Carrollton-Farmers Branch school district. It will also allow 15 UNT students to participate in programs to learn about culturally responsive lessons and alternate assessments for English language learners.

​Award-winning poet to speak at Newnan Carnegie Library

The Newnan Carnegie Library will welcome award-winning poet B.H. Fairchild for an interview, reading and book signing March 3 at 6 p.m. The event, located at 1 LaGrange St., is free and open to the public. 

The poet will be interviewed by Dr. Chad Davidson, Director of the School of the Arts and Professor of English at the University of West Georgia before reading selected works.

“We’re very excited about this,” Davidson said in a recent press release. “Pete gives a riveting reading. If you go to only one poetry reading in your life, this is the one.”
