Advocates Rally in Support of Texas DREAM Act

On the second day of the 84th Texas Legislature, analliance of students, Hispanic advocates and business leaders assembled on the south steps of the Capitol to announce their commitment to the Texas DREAM Act.

The act, passed in 2001, allows undocumented students who graduate from Texas high schools and who have been in the state at least three years to pay in-state tuition at community colleges and public universities.

Arlington's Top Students Can Automatically Enroll At UNT

In the Arlington school district, 20 percent of graduating seniors and as many as 27 percent of Hispanic graduates in the Arlington school district don’t apply to college. That startling number is why the district has been partnering with local universities to ensure more students move beyond high school. The latest effort is with the University of North Texas.

On a dreary January day, a bright future is being forged for students in North Texas.

"You do your work, you do your part, your commitment, and you get admitted to UNT," said Arlington ISD Superintendent Marcelo Cavazos before hundreds of excited high schoolers.

Juniors, like Tiara Lewis, who rank in the top-20 percent in their class will now be guaranteed admission into the Mean Green family. It's all thanks to the Eagle Advantage program, which rewards the district's top-performing students and takes away the guessing...

UNT starts partnership with Arlington schools

The University of North Texas will launch a new partnership today with the Arlington school district to automatically accept students who are in the top 20 percent of their junior class.

Dubbed the Eagle Advantage plan, students who are juniors at any of the 10 Arlington ISD high schools and in the top 20 percent of their class will be admitted to the school automatically.

As long as they meet graduation requirements by the end of their senior year, they will continue on to UNT. Students who are currently seniors will be grandfathered into the program for fall 2015 if they meet the requirements.

UT Dallas, UNT ranked among nation's best online MBA programs

The University of Texas at Dallas has the sixth best online MBA program in the nation, according to a new listing by U.S. News & World Report.

Topping that list is Indiana University, Bloomington, the magazine said. The University of North Texas in Denton was ranked No. 47 and was the only other North Texas university ranked in the Top 100 in the category.

U.S. News cited UT Dallas in Richardson for its high percentage of students who already are employed when they first enroll, and for being accredited by the Association of Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.
