LLELA to participate in National Public Lands Day

In honor of National Public Lands Day, staff and volunteers at the Lewisville Lake Environmental Learning Area (LLELA) will be planting native vegetation along and in the Elm Fork of the Trinity River to improve habitat for fish and other wildlife and stabilize the banks of the river. The event will take place from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Sept. 18. Volunteers of all ages are invited. Scouts and other youth organizations, community groups, families, and individuals are welcome. Parks and Recreation department, UNT join forces on master plan

The University of North Texas is partnering with the city of Rowlett to create a new park master plan. The plan will determine the additions and changes that need to be made to the citys park system. The current plan expired in January of this year, said Jermel Stevenson, parks director. The plan has many good fruits in it. A great thing happened earlier this year; we met with Dr. Collins and began talking to him about a research-based approach to our system. We were able to come up with a really good proposal.
