Exhibits Explore Latin American Culture Through Photography

Two photography exhibitions exploring and challenging the perception of Latin American cultures are setting up shop in the Visual Arts Building.

UT Dallas alumna Lillian Albritton PhD’15 and doctoral candidate Lupita Murillo Tinnen are debuting new bodies of work with an opening reception from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday.

Local high school kids learn about aviation careers

Students from local high schools got a taste of various careers in aviation at a week-long summer camp held at Alliance Airport last week. The camp was put on by various instructors at the University of North Texas and Tarrant County College with assistance from the Federal Aviation Administration. Students got to fly in a Cessna, head up to the air traffic control tower and take apart an aircraft engine during the camp. The story features of video of the camp. To watch the video click here.

Northwest High School senior Austen Williams is shown using a flight simulator at the Aviation Career Education Academy Program’s ACE Camp, co-sponsored by the Federal Aviation Administration, University of North Texas and Tarrant County College, at Alliance Airport on Friday in Fort Worth. The week-long camp brought high school juniors and seniors to the airport, where they learned to fly airplanes, competed in races with model gliders and drone copter quads, and learned the science of how aircraft fly.

County officials meet with FEMA reps

Officials from Denton County governments, cities and towns took the first step toward repairing damage caused by recent weather events that include flooding and the tornado that hit Denton on May 10. Federal Emergency Management Agency representatives met with officials Monday to brief them on how to file for federal aid for projects large and small.

“It was an opportunity for them to learn what the rules were,” Denton County Judge Mary Horn said.

“For example, say you had a culvert that got destroyed. When you decide you need to put a new one in, FEMA will do a 75/25 split,” she said. “But if you want to replace it...

Kimberly A. Russell was selected as the next chancellor of LSU Eunice, LSU President F. King Alexander announced. Russell is currently the vice president for advancement and external affairs and executive director of the Tyler Junior College Foundation at Tyler Junior College in Texas.
