Students take flight at North Texas aviation camp

A group of North Texas teenagers is getting a true hands-on experience in aviation.

It's part of a week-long course put on by the University of North Texas and Tarrant County College.

A small group of high schoolers from all over North Texas attended the camp.

"It's important because this is what I want to do,"  said Mista'h Sanders, a 17-year-old Dunbar High School senior participant.

Deborah Leliaert, University of North Texas vice president for university relations and planning, has big guns representing her and her spouse, Paula Woolworth, in a federal lawsuit. Lambda Legal, a national organization that advocates for the civil rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Americans through litigation, is representing the couple in the suit against Employment Retirement Systems of Texas for denying health coverage for Woolworth. Mike Ryan heard mixed reviews about Nashville before he took a break from Fort Worth to make Bad Reputation.

“Down here in Texas, you hear bad stuff about Nashville,” Ryan said. “I went out there and it’s like this: I’m getting the opportunity to write with some of the best in the business. And I’m not trying to write what’s on the radio. I’m getting to write what I want to write, and do it with some of the best. I look at it as an opportunity.”

Jacksonville Education Foundation to honor ‘stars’ ex-Cowboy, cheerleaders

The Jacksonville Education Foundation will once again honor “stars” from Jacksonville as the 4th annual “Evening with Our Stars” takes on a tribute to the Dallas Cowboys organization.   Jacksonville proudly claims a former Dallas Cowboy, Mr. Toby Gowin, and three former Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders, Kelli Green Carpenter, Shannon Swanson Landers, and Niki Green Gowin.  These girls competed against over 1000 others from around the country before earning one of the few coveted spots on the famous squad.  Kelli, Shannon, and Niki cheered on the Cowboys in the 90’s and all three performed at Super Bowl XXX in 1996...
