Visual Arts Society of Texas’ to host opening reception

The Visual Arts Society of Texas’ will host an opening reception for the 12th annual 125-Mile Visual Arts Exhibition.

The reception will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at Patterson-Appleton Arts Center, Gough Gallery, 400 East Hickory St. in Denton. Awards will be presented at 6:30 p.m. The reception is free and open to the public.

The 125-Mile Exhibition was initiated in 2006 to establish a regional high quality juried art exhibition for artists living within a 125-mile radius of Denton to compete and show their work.

UNT alumnus latest exhibit follows one family's life

The Lost Pines Art League is proud to present an educational and uplifting photography show about the exhibition The Upshaws of County Line follows one family from everyday events, such as a game of dominos, to important milestones such as births and funerals.

But what makes the Upshaws unique is where they lived - County Line, a freedom colony in East Texas formed in the 1870s by newly freed slaves on land that they owned.

UNT curator helps Dallas Black Dance Theatre celebrate 40 years

“40 Years Forward,” Dallas Black Dance Theatre’s (DBDT) archive exhibition tour, wraps up a year-long celebration of the oldest continuously operating dance company in Dallas, but for Melissa M. Young, the exhibition chronicles her artistic home.

Young, who was honored with the Natalie Skelton Award for Artistic Excellence in 2016, has been with DBDT since 1994. She started with the company as a dancer and went on to serve as a Rehearsal Director and as Academy Director. She is currently the company’s Associate Artistic Director.
