Chef Blythe Beck is no shrinking violet.

The executive chef and co-owner of Pink Magnolia in Oak Cliff in Dallas specializes in Southern food with great big flavor profiles, and the chef will make the trek back to Denton to for the Guest Chef Day at the University of North Texas’ Club at Gateway Center.

Beck, a UNT alumna, will cook with UNT hospitality students for lunch April 5 at UNT’s Gateway Center, 801 North Texas Blvd. Diners will be seated between 11 a.m. and 12:15 p.m.

But actually figuring out how to access and translate that into business intelligence remains one of the most vexing issues for the hospitality industry today.

Hospitality student named finalist for international award

UNT graduate student Althea Johnson is one of eight finalists for the Hyatt Student Prize, an award that recognizes students across the globe who plan to enter hospitality.

Johnson is enrolled in UNT’s master’s program for international sustainable tourism. She is the only finalist from North America.

The winner is scheduled to be announced Dec. 3 during an award ceremony at the Grand Hyatt Cannes Hotel in France.

The grill is sizzling again as the University of North Texas Club at Gateway Center, a student-run restaurant, opens to the public.

The dining facility teeming with college-age students serves gourmet, three-course dining meals, while also heating up students’ skills in the high-end restaurant industry. Open weekdays from Sept. 28 to Nov. 25, Club at Gateway Center is a literal learning lab for students.
