UNT students to compete in international hotel competition

A group of four undergraduate students will compete in an international competition during HX: The Hotel Experience 2017 in New York City this weekend. 

The team, comprised of Katie Bland, Sumin Woo, Daniel Zavala and Lidia Guzman, will compete in the Student Market Study Competition. The students will give a 30-minute presentation based on a market study of hotel performance and strategy.

More than three dozen teams are in the undergraduate division competing against UNT's team. The top three teams are eligible for prizes.

Graduate student lands national scholarship

Laura Anne Hunt, a master’s student studying international sustainable tourism, earned the National Tour Association Travel Leaders Scholarship. The scholarship, for graduate students nationwide, named Hunt the sole recipient.

In addition to a $2,000 award, she has her registration to the annual “Tourism Rocks” conference paid for, and she’ll shadow mentors at the event.

DENTON, Texas--From Pier 1 Imports to Sally Beauty to Edgecase, a leading provider of curated product data, big names in the retail industry are turning to the University of North Texas’ (UNT) Global Digital Retailing Research Center (GDRRC) for thought leadership regarding industry changes.

An arm of the UNT College of Merchandising, Hospitality and Tourism, the center is “blazing a trail for digital retail workforce development,” said Garrett Eastham, chief product officer and co-founder of Edgecase, and member of the center’s Think Tank and College of Merchandising, Hospitality and Tourism Board of Governors.
