The University of North Texas’ most famous alum has high hopes for the football program.

“My expectations for North Texas is to put some mean in the green,” said North Texas alum and pro football Hall of Famer Joe Greene recently to CBS11 Sports.

And no one knows “mean” better than “Mean Joe” Greene.

North Texas is counting on second-year head coach Seth Littrell to put the “mean” back in the “Mean Green.”

“It’s our core values, selfless, tough and discipline. It’s what we go buy everyday and it’s been in style ever since Coach Littrell came,” said running back Jeffrey Wilson.

North Texas coach Seth Littrell held his weekly press conference today in advance of the Mean Green's showdown with Texas-San Antonio on Saturday.

UNT was off last week, when just about everything fell into place perfectly for the Mean Green. UTSA lost to Southern Miss, Louisiana Tech fell to UAB and suddenly, UNT was alone in first place in the C-USA West Division standings at 2-0.

The Mean Green are halfway to becoming bowl eligible at 3-2. UTSA is off to a solid start at 3-1, but is probably in a must-win situation heading into its showdown with UNT after losing its C-USA opener last week.

Press conference notebook: UNT hoping for big turnout

Seth Littrell didn't wait long to make his appeal to North Texas supporters to show up for what will be one of the bigger games in recent program history.

UNT's coach started off his weekly press conference with it Tuesday.

The Mean Green (3-2) enter the week alone atop the Conference USA West Division standings at 2-0 and will host Texas-San Antonio at 6 p.m. Saturday at Apogee Stadium.

The Roadrunners (3-1) lost their conference opener last week at home to Southern Mississippi but beat Baylor this year and are considered one of the other contenders for the division title.

UNT announces multimedia rights deal with Learfield

North Texas announced a 10-year media rights partnership with Learfield, one of the premier companies in the field, on Friday.  

Learfield will manage UNT's signage, digital endeavors, corporate sponsorships, television and radio play-by-play broadcasts and coach shows.

UNT athletic director Wren Baker made the announcement in conjunction with Learfield president and CEO Greg Brown.

The deal marks the first time UNT has outsourced its multimedia rights. Joe Domingos of Learfield will manage the newly formed Mean Green Sports Properties.

UNT hires Arkansas State's Grant McCasland as next men's basketball coach

Wren Baker vowed just a few days ago to find a proven head coach to take over North Texas' men's basketball program.

UNT's athletic director came through on that promise Monday, when the school announced Grant McCasland has been hired to replace Tony Benford.

The Denton Record-Chronicle reported early Monday afternoon that UNT was close to finalizing a deal to hire Arkansas State's head coach to take over its program.
