UNT, SMU extend football series through 2021

The football series North Texas fans wanted for years isn’t going away any time soon.

UNT and SMU announced Monday they have tacked four games on to their last agreement and now will play through the 2021 season.

UNT will host SMU on Sept. 1, 2018, and Sept. 5, 2020. The Mean Green will travel to SMU on Sept. 7, 2019, and Sept. 11, 2021.

UNT will travel to SMU for this season’s game on Sept. 9.

UNT Agrees To New 5-Year Deal With Littrell

DENTON (105.3 The Fan) – The University of North Texas has ripped up their previous agreement with head coach Seth Littrell and have given him a new five-year deal.

Vice President and director of athletics Wren Baker announced the deal Friday in a press release.

Littrell’s new contract keeps him in Denton until 2021.

North Texas moved two key steps closer to solidifying its 2017 recruiting class on Wednesday, when the Mean Green picked up a commitment from a highly regarded Texas wide receiver and officially added a junior college quarterback.

UNT’s newest addition is Cleburne wide receiver Tre’Von Bradley. The 5-11 senior announced he has committed to UNT tonight on Twitter.

UNT earns return trip to Heart of Dallas Bowl, will play Army for second time this season

North Texas is headed back to the site of one of the more memorable moments in program history.

UNT accepted a bid to the Heart of Dallas Bowl on Sunday. The Mean Green will face Army at 11 a.m. Dec. 27 at the Cotton Bowl.

UNT has played in only eight bowls in program history, the last coming in the Heart of Dallas Bowl the end of the 2013 season. UNT beat UNLV 36-14 in front of a crowd of 38,380.

That turnout was a big selling point in UNT being invited back to face the Black Knights in a rematch of a game UNT won 35-18 on Oct. 22 at West Point.

North Texas upsets Southern Miss for fifth win

North Texas didn’t have its usual starting quarterback or its star running back for a vital late-season game against Southern Miss on Saturday.

None of that mattered, thanks largely to a gutty performance by Alec Morris. The senior saw his first significant action since being benched after the Mean Green’s season-opening loss to SMU and guided UNT to a slump-busting 29-23 win at Apogee Stadium.
