UNT adds David Stenklyft as director of recruiting

The North Texas football program added David Stenklyft as its director of recruiting today.

Stenklyft was the assistant director of player personnel at Fresno State the last four years. He was previously the defensive quality control coach at Texas A&M. Prior to his time at A&M, he was in a recruiting/operations role at Alabama and was a student assistant at A&M 2006-10.

His bio lines up pretty well with UNT special teams coordinator Tommy Perry.

New UNT coach Seth Littrell mentioned this spring that he had a few more hires to make for off-the-field roles. This was one of them...

Basketball: UNT women finalize their nonconference slate for the 2016-17 season

The North Texas women’s basketball team will face Arizona and Indiana in addition to playing in the preseason Women’s NIT during the 2016-17 season.

Those games, plus the Mean Green’s annual showdown with rival SMU, were all a part of UNT’s nonconference schedule released Wednesday.

UNT will host TWU in an exhibition game Nov. 6 before opening the season with its first game in the WNIT at Arkansas-Little Rock on Nov. 11.

The Mean Green will host Indiana in a premier home game on Dec. 6 and face Arizona on the road Nov. 22. UNT also will travel to SMU on Nov. 30 in its second season under...

UNT coach learned value of work from family business

Seth Littrell forged his professional career on the football field, but his character sprang from a childhood hanging around his family’s car dealership in Muskogee, Oklahoma.

Littrell learned the value of hard work under the watchful eye of his father and grandfather, who taught him how to wash cars, work the cash register and treat paying customers.

Those values stayed with Littrell as he grew into a battering ram of a college fullback at the University of Oklahoma and then developed into one of America’s premier offensive coordinators at the University of North Carolina.

Football: Linebacker to join UNT as a graduate transfer

North Texas is on the verge of adding one of the top junior college linebackers from the 2014 recruiting class to its roster.

D’Vonta Derricott, who played at Garden City Community College in Kansas, is in the process of finishing the final class he needs to transfer and enroll at UNT for his final season.

Derricott transferred to Kansas State following his junior college career and spent one season with the Wildcats as a redshirt. He then transferred to Eastern Kentucky, a Football Championship Subdivision school, where he played last season.

UNT facility renovations underway

Over the course of the last few months, we have mentioned that North Texas was set to begin some renovations to the Mean Green Athletic Center.

Those renovations are now underway.

UNT is revamping its football team room and is also renovating the program’s locker room.
