The North Texas men’s and women’s basketball summer camps are coming up in the next few days.

I have been meaning to give both Tony Benford and Jalie Mitchell a plug here on the blog, where we get the largest audience as far as readership goes. The news kind of got lost in the shuffle of the Rick Villarreal stepping down and the football recruiting rush of the last few days.

North Texas went all the way to Illinois to land College of DuPage quarterback Devin O’Hara earlier this summer.

The Mean Green now has picked up Quinetin Jackson, one of his go-to targets, as a late addition to its 2016 recruiting class.

UNT had been recruiting the wide receiver for the past several weeks. He committed to play for the Mean Green late Saturday night.

Brief: Oritz misses cut at 12 over

North Texas product Carlos Ortiz finished 12 over par Friday and failed to make the cut at the U.S. Open.

Ortiz shot 76 in both rounds of the first major of his professional career.

The 2013 UNT graduate qualified for the event by shooting a 10-under 132 and winning the Columbus-area sectional qualifier June 6.

“I didn’t play great at the beginning of the year and lost my confidence, and I’m getting it back,” Ortiz told thePittsburgh Tribune-Review after the qualfier. “I feel great with my game. It’s just I need to get around better on the golf course, make it easier for me.”

UNT adds two more FCS foes

North Texas will host a pair of Football Championship Subdivision teams in consecutive seasons beginning in 2020, one from within the state and another located all the way across the country.

Houston Baptist will travel to Apogee Stadium in 2020 before Rhode Island visits Denton the following year.

UNT officials confirmed Thursday afternoon that agreements are in place with both schools.

Those two games round out UNT’s nonconference schedule through the 2021 season. UNT has games scheduled against FCS teams in each of the next six years.

North Texas has picked up a commitment from junior college quarterback Devin O’Hara.

The DuPage standout threw for 1,786 yards and and 21 touchdowns last season. He was a sophomore last season. Here are his Hudl highlights.
