UNT adds two more FCS foes

North Texas will host a pair of Football Championship Subdivision teams in consecutive seasons beginning in 2020, one from within the state and another located all the way across the country.

Houston Baptist will travel to Apogee Stadium in 2020 before Rhode Island visits Denton the following year.

UNT officials confirmed Thursday afternoon that agreements are in place with both schools.

Those two games round out UNT’s nonconference schedule through the 2021 season. UNT has games scheduled against FCS teams in each of the next six years.

North Texas has picked up a commitment from junior college quarterback Devin O’Hara.

The DuPage standout threw for 1,786 yards and and 21 touchdowns last season. He was a sophomore last season. Here are his Hudl highlights.

Job advisers always recommend standing out from the crowd when looking to land your dream job. Anthony Wallace is hoping that tact will get him a shot with the Dallas Cowboys.

The former University of North Texas linebacker didn’t get drafted in April and wasn’t picked up as a free agent. Believing he can play in the NFL, Wallace decided to take things in his own hands and headed to Cowboys headquarters at Valley Ranch on Wednesday.

“An opportunity is all I need,” Wallace wrote on a piece of cardboard.

UNT lands highly regarded JC defensive end Raveon Hoston

North Texas came up with a huge win on the recruiting front Wednesday, when the Mean Green signed highly regarded junior college defensive end Raveon Hoston.

Hoston, a late 2016 recruit, announced his decision at a signing ceremony at LA Valley College, where he played last season.

UNT had been recruiting Hoston for several weeks and hosted him on a visit to Denton earlier this summer. He finished with six sacks and 23 tackles, including 5.5 for loss, in eight games last season.

Hoston had offers from Memphis and Central Florida in the weeks leading up to national signing day in February.

Webb reflects on her freshman season at UNT

DAVIS — Sitting in a booth on Tuesday at Dougherty Diner, Casady Webb discussed her freshman year.

A Class of 2015 Davis High School alumna, Webb’s initial season as a softball player at the University of North Texas ended on May 8 with a 3-2 walk-off win against the University of Alabama-Birmingham.

The Mean Green’s 22-33 record, however, was insufficient to earn a berth in the seven-team Conference USA Tournament, which occurred in Denton, Texas.
