The University of North Texas may soon become an exclusive higher education sponsor of the Dallas Cowboys football team, an unusual deal that would include sponsorship opportunities and provide student internships at the team’s headquarters.

The framework for such an arrangement is laid out in a memo included in the meeting agenda for the UNT System Board of Regents. On Thursday and Friday, the board is expected to hold a meeting at which it will consider delegating authority to negotiate the details.

One of the more challenging springs for the North Texas football team came to an end last week with the Mean Green’s annual spring game.

UNT installed a new spread offense and a revamped defense that will use a base 3-3-5 alignment, adjusted to a new coaching staff and moved a little closer toward selecting a new starting quarterback.

It was a lot to handle for new coach Seth Littrell and his players, who came away pleased with the results.

DENTON -- Lee High School grad and former University of North Texas football standout Andy Brewster is going to be inducted into the University of North Texas Athletic Hall of Fame.

The induction takes place today during an 11 a.m. luncheon at UNT’s Apogee Stadium and it will be held before the annual football spring game, which begins at 2 p.m. Brewster, the starting center of two Class 5A state championship teams at Lee in 1998 and 1999, will be one of nine inductees.

Wichitan Bowles proud to be part of UNT history

Since being a high school senior at Notre Dame who had to make his own highlight tapes to send college coaches, Scott Bowles has done quite well for himself.

He ended up with a college scholarship, was a four-year all-conference starter and ended up spending a couple of years in the NFL.

He will be honored for a second time by the University of North Texas when he will be one of six inducted into the North Texas Athletics Hall of Fame Saturday.

Bowles, who played tackle for the Eagles from 1987-90, was previously selected as a member of North Texas' All-Century Football Team.

Mark Beaty has remained in close contact with his former North Texas teammates over the years through email and the occasional phone call.
