UNT One O'Clock Lab Band plans fall concerts with guests

The University of North Texas One O'clock Lab Band will share the stage with two guests in concerts this fall. 

The U.S. Navy Band Commodores, an 18-piece big band, will perform a free concert at 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 25, at the University Union Syndicate, 1155 Union Circle. The One O'clock Lab Band will open for the Commodores, which includes six alumni of the UNT College of Music.  The lab band's pre-concert rehearsal will be open to the public, along with an earlier Commodores concert at 2 p.m., in Kenton Hall at 415 Ave. C.

The University of North Texas College of Music's flagship program continues its anniversary with a series of outdoor concerts in Dallas.

The Division of Jazz Studies is celebrating its 70th anniversary will present of concerts at Klyde Warren Park in "Jazz on the Green" this month and in November.

The series begins with a concert by the UNT One O'clock Lab Band from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 26. Band leader Alan Baylock directs.

If the upcoming One O’clock Lab Band concert has a youthful zing to it, it’s because guest artist Sean Jones guest solos for the group in its first major on-campus gig under the direction of new bandleader Alan Blaylock.

DALLAS — In a small studio in Dallas, the One O'Clock Lab Band is doing another take.

What sounds great to most people, may be a misstep to its band members. That's why they've spent days perfecting their new album, Lab 2016.
