Women’s basketball: Mitchell named as women’s coach

North Texas is bringing one of its own home in the hope she can re-energize its women’s basketball program.

Jalie Mitchell, UNT’s all-time leading scorer who has served as an assistant coach at the school twice, is returning, this time as the Mean Green’s head coach.

UNT announced that Mitchell had accepted the position late Wednesday afternoon and will introduce her at a press conference at 2 p.m. this afternoon at Apogee Stadium.

University hires new diversity vice president

Joanne Woodard, who oversees diversity at North Carolina State University, will come to UNT this summer to be the new vice president for diversity and inclusion.

She will replace Jean Keller, who is the interim vice president for institutional equity and diversity.

In the new role, Woodard will work to develop and implement strategies to encourage diversity, inclusion, access and community engagement.

Currently, she is the vice provost for institutional equity and diversity and the chief diversity officer at North Carolina State University...

Hayes to become city manager in May

Following an executive session at a Weatherford City Council meeting Tuesday, the council announced the appointment of Weatherford Assistant City Manager Sharon Hayes to the position of city manager, effective May 1. 

Hayes will replace City Manager Jerry Blaisdell upon his retirement April 30.

The Denton school board officially named Susannah O’Bara, principal at Hawk Elementary School, its second executive director of elementary academic programs Tuesday.

O’Bara, 45, will work along side Vicki Sargent, the district’s other executive director of elementary academic programs. Responsibilities include overseeing elementary and early childhood programs and operations, health services and the Extended School Day program.
