Black Friday, traditionally the biggest shopping day of the year, is right around the corner. The sales boost could not come soon enough for most retailers.

UNT students clinch top award in National Retail Federation contest for first time

Four University of North Texas students have won first place in the National Retail Federation Student Challenge, clinching a first-ever win for students in UNT's Department of Merchandising and Digital Retailing. They were each awarded a $5,000 scholarship Jan. 17 during the NRF's annual "BIG Show" in New York City for their pitch of a product worthy of a national retailer.

State board approves retailing degree at University of North Texas

You love to shop. Well, guess what? Now you can major in it.

The University of North Texas will be offering a new bachelor of science degree in retailing, reflecting the rapid changes in one of the oldest forms of commerce.

The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board approved the degree last year, and students can declare the major starting this fall.

Several universities offer merchandising degrees and certificates in retail programs, but UNT said its degree is the first in the U.S. to include the three main components of retailing: merchandising, digital and operations.
