The Breakup Marathon

Brian Eastwood was a pretty good runner, but he’d always come up a bit short in trying to reach his goal of qualifying for the Boston Marathon.

When he set out to train for the 2015 Vermont City Marathon, though, his 12th try at qualifying, he had something new in his life: a divorce.

“The day my wife and I went to court was the first day of 16 weeks of training,” said Mr. Eastwood, 35, of Somerville, Mass. His life was, to put it mildly, in flux. Not only was he on the verge of divorce, but he was in the middle of trying...

Missouri will pay North Texas $1.3 million in guarantees to play in Columbia in 2021, executive associate athletic director Bryan Maggard said Tuesday. He said the contract with North Texas is being finalized.

The Tigers and Mean Green entered a one-game agreement and are scheduled to play on Oct. 16, 2021.

“They’ve been a program I’ve talked to for some time, and actually when we were trying to get the ’15 schedule finalized, they were somebody I had a lot of conversation with, and we just weren’t able to get it done,” said Maggard, who oversees the Tigers’ football scheduling. “I’ve just...

UNT has picked up a commitment from Ryan linebacker Tyreke Davis.

Davis was one of about 75 high school juniors who were on campus today for the Mean Green’s junior day.

Landing Davis is a key win early in the tenure of first-year UNT coach Seth Littrell. The Denton schools have long been...

A second chance at North Texas appears as if it could pay off in a big way for Trey Keenan.

The former Argyle standout began his career at Texas Tech before transferring to UNT and sitting out last season. Keenan is one of a few players who either didn’t play at all or played very little last season and showed breakout potential during the Mean Green’s first scrimmage of spring practice Saturday.

UNT worked out for about two hours at the Darrell R. Dickey Football Practice Facility.

“There was a lot of good on both sides of the ball,” UNT coach Seth Littrell said. “The more guys...

Just standing there never felt so nerve-racking for North Texas outfielder Danielle Gregory.

The junior went to the plate with the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth inning against Baylor in the championship game of the Getterman Classic on Sunday with the score tied.

Gregory worked the count to 3-1 and was given the “take” sign by UNT coach Tracey Kee.

Gregory watched as ball four sailed by, giving UNT a 7-6 win and the tournament championship.

UNT beat then-No. 21 Baylor twice over the weekend, both times in extra innings.

“Getting the take sign made it easier,”...
