Wren Baker has only been the athletic director at North Texas for a little more than a year, but he's been around college athletics long enough to identify the feeling heading into the Mean Green's game against Texas-San Antonio on Saturday.

"If you do this long enough, you get the vibe when a game is different," Baker said. "This game has a different feel."

That's because it's one of the biggest regular-season games UNT has played in years. The Mean Green (3-2) are 2-0 in Conference USA play and alone in first place in the league's West Division heading into a showdown with the Roadrunners, one of their biggest...

The University of North Texas’ most famous alum has high hopes for the football program.

“My expectations for North Texas is to put some mean in the green,” said North Texas alum and pro football Hall of Famer Joe Greene recently to CBS11 Sports.

And no one knows “mean” better than “Mean Joe” Greene.

North Texas is counting on second-year head coach Seth Littrell to put the “mean” back in the “Mean Green.”

“It’s our core values, selfless, tough and discipline. It’s what we go buy everyday and it’s been in style ever since Coach Littrell came,” said running back Jeffrey Wilson.

Seth Littrell press conference: UTSA game huge for UNT

North Texas coach Seth Littrell held his weekly press conference today in advance of the Mean Green's showdown with Texas-San Antonio on Saturday.

UNT was off last week, when just about everything fell into place perfectly for the Mean Green. UTSA lost to Southern Miss, Louisiana Tech fell to UAB and suddenly, UNT was alone in first place in the C-USA West Division standings at 2-0.

The Mean Green are halfway to becoming bowl eligible at 3-2. UTSA is off to a solid start at 3-1, but is probably in a must-win situation heading into its showdown with UNT after losing its C-USA opener last week.

Littrell pointed...

Brian Eastwood was a pretty good runner, but he’d always come up a bit short in trying to reach his goal of qualifying for the Boston Marathon.

When he set out to train for the 2015 Vermont City Marathon, though, his 12th try at qualifying, he had something new in his life: a divorce.

“The day my wife and I went to court was the first day of 16 weeks of training,” said Mr. Eastwood, 35, of Somerville, Mass. His life was, to put it mildly, in flux. Not only was he on the verge of divorce, but he was in the middle of trying...

Missouri will pay North Texas $1.3 million in guarantees to play in Columbia in 2021, executive associate athletic director Bryan Maggard said Tuesday. He said the contract with North Texas is being finalized.

The Tigers and Mean Green entered a one-game agreement and are scheduled to play on Oct. 16, 2021.

“They’ve been a program I’ve talked to for some time, and actually when we were trying to get the ’15 schedule finalized, they were somebody I had a lot of conversation with, and we just weren’t able to get it done,” said Maggard, who oversees the Tigers’ football scheduling. “I’ve just...
