There’s a new after-school club in Denton ISD where kids can play computer games. But they’re not just staring like zombies into screens. This is also an introduction to computer coding. The goal is for kids to learn while having fun.

Harpool Middle School’s busy, after-school Minecraft club is packed with 6th, 7th, and 8th, graders. Kseniya Bardabush was already well into her development as a tennis player when a suggestion from her mother opened up a whole new avenue in life.

Bardabush was a budding star on the courts of the Ukraine with a wicked serve and pro aspirations at the age of 15.

Galina Bardabush looked past all that tennis ability and saw something more in her daughter that is still apparent to those who gauge a different type of talent all these years later.

The mother saw her daughter’s potential to become a model. She was growing up as a tall, strong blonde who loved to dress up, fix her hair and perfect her makeup.


Mexican, American journalism students amazed as stereotypes disintegrate

They came to learn about journalism from one another, Mexican and American students, and walked away having learned lessons about themselves.

Three of the students — one from Universidad Autonóma del Estado de México and two from the University of North Texas — reflected on their experiences and the importance of moving beyond preconceived notions of one another.

Texas Rangers' Home Opener Hours Away

Baseball is back in North Texas.

The Houston Astros came to town for a three-game series against the Texas Rangers at Globe Life Park. The first pitch of the Rangers' home opener is schedule for 3:05 p.m. Friday.

The Rangers are 23-20 overall in home openers and 11-10 in openers at Globe Life Park. Last season's loss to the Philadelphia Phillies snapped a 5-game winning streak in home openers.

Nicholas Bradley, a retired Air Force Staff Sergeant who served in Iraq, will throw out the ceremonial first pitch before the Rangers home opener on April 10 against Houston at Globe Life Park.

Bradley flew more than 200 surveillance missions for the 332nd Expeditionary Security Forces in Afghanistan and Iraq. On August 3, 2008, while on a protective services mission in Afghanistan, Bradley’s vehicle was struck by 20 pounds of anti-tank explosive devices. he has had 16 surgeries and continues to attend occupational and physical therapy.
