The North Texas men’s basketball team is coming home this week for what looks like it will be a big opportunity to jump into the Conference USA title chase.

The Mean Green picked up a key road win against Texas-San Antonio during a two-game road trip last week and are 1-1 in conference play heading into a three-game home stand that will begin Saturday against Rice.

The Owls (5-10) have lost their first two games in C-USA play. The Mean Green (6-9) will then take on Marshall (5-9) before closing out their home series with a game against Western Kentucky.

Bryce English was on his way home to Texas a few weeks ago when his phone rang.

The former DeSoto defensive tackle had just decided to leave Kansas State and look for a school close to home where he could continue his career.

On just the third day of 2016, Justin Truby of Denton can already say it’s been a great year.

Truby, a finance major at the University of North Texas, won a 2016 Ford Fusion SE hybrid on Sunday as part of the Texas Department of Transportation’s “Don’t Mess with Texas” litter prevention campaign.

TxDOT officials awarded Truby the car on Sunday as part of the festivities at the Dallas Cowboys game at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.

The UNT student was selected from three finalists in the Texas sweepstakes.

UNT Student Wins Hybrid Car During Cowboys Game

A University of North Texas student won a hybrid car during Sunday’s Dallas Cowboys game.

The Texas Department of Transportation and the Cowboys gave Justin Truby, a finance major at UNT, a 2016 Ford Fusion SE Hybrid car to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the “Don’t mess with Texas” litter-prevention campaign.

“I congratulate Truby on winning the new Ford Fusion Hybrid and am grateful to the Dallas Cowboys, who help us raise awareness on the importance of making our state litter-free,” Texas Transportation Commissioner Jeff Austin III said in a statement.

Bartram hired as new Aspermont Superintendent

Going into his sixth year as principal at Iowa Park High School and with over 20 years experience as an educator in the city’s school system, Tim Bartram is now officially transitioning to the superintendent ranks, accepting the vacant position at Aspermont ISD this past month.Bartram’s resignation from the IPHS position was accepted by school trustees during their regular meeting Thursday.
