Local university police departments are in the last few weeks of preparation for the campus carry bill to go into effect, a law that allows people with concealed handgun licenses to carry in school buildings.
Elizabeth Pauley, chief of police at Texas Woman’s University, and Ed Reynolds, chief at the University of North Texas, don’t anticipate the average visitor to campus even noticing the changes come Aug. 1. Open carry of weapons is not allowed, and only a small percentage of people will be able to carry their weapons concealed on campuses.
