Union now has opening set

The new student union at the University of North Texas will be open for business Wednesday, Nov. 11 after more than two years of construction.

While all parts of the union won’t be ready, like the Barnes & Noble university book store, the lounge, meeting and dining options will be ready, said Zane Reif, director of the union.

“We’re really just putting on the finishing touches, and furniture comes in next week,” Reif said. “It’s the finishing parts of it left, like the floors and the painting, but it’s come a long way and it’s really nice.”

UNT: Still going strong at 125

Lots of numbers stand out about the University of North Texas — with perhaps the biggest being that the Denton institution is celebrating its 125th anniversary this fall.

Still, alumni and current students who cheered on the Mean Green at Homecoming this weekend say it’s the feeling they get stepping on campus that best represents UNT’s strength.

UNT looks at campus carry

University of North Texas students, faculty and staff will be able to offer their opinions on what areas of campus concealed handgun license holders can carry their weapons.

The forums are the latest step in a process of implementing Texas Senate Bill 11, commonly referred to as “campus carry,” which will take effect on Aug. 1 next year. UNT President Neal Smatresk formed a 23-person task force to make a plan of where guns will and won’t be allowed on campus.

Get your horns up. A new report confirms what Longhorns have known all along: The University of Texas at Austin is the best in the country. 

For its 2016 list of the Top Public Universities, Niche assessed schools on 10 factors, ranging from strength of the academic program to quality of campus amenities, to create an overall score. High scores across the board led to UT's No. 1 ranking.

AV the Great Wants Denton To Have Its Own Performing Arts Magnet School

The landscape could be more inspiring in the southeast part of Denton where AV the Great grew up and still lives. There is a huge cemetery, a juvenile detention center, the county courthouse and jail, and the alternative school. These are the day-to-day surroundings of families, what they are accustomed to, and they feel the negative energy. Now AV the Great wants to change that.
