Coming into the season, the North Texas tennis staff knew it would need strong leadership from its upperclassmen to guide a young, talented roster.

But even coach Sujay Lama had to be pleasantly surprised with what he got out of his team leaders on Sunday.

Riding winning momentum from a victory against Louisiana Tech on Saturday afternoon, the Mean Green continued that effort by knocking off the No. 36 Oklahoma Sooners 4-1. North Texas seniors captured each of three singles wins en route to the victory.

The North Texas swimming and diving team sent its eight seniors out in style, downing Metroplex rival TCU by a score of 180-120 in Friday’s home dual meet. The Mean Green never trailed in the meet, winning each of the first 10 swimming events and winning 12 of the 16 events overall.

With the win, North Texas improves to 7-3 in dual meets this season, its best start in school history, and the seven dual-meet wins are the second-most in school history. The win over TCU was also just the fourth in 23 meetings all-time.

Jeremy Combs had his fifth double-double of the season with 22 points and 12 rebounds to help North Texas beat Rice 85-74 on Saturday.

NORMAN — No. 17-ranked Oklahoma suffered a stunning setback on Monday night, losing a 61-57 women's basketball decision to North Texas at Lloyd Noble Center. It was the Sooners' first loss of the season after opening the 2015-16 campaign on Friday with a 30-point victory over Winthrop.

Terra Ellison had a team-best 15 points for North Texas, which avenged last season's 68-39 loss to OU in Denton. She was 6 of 16 from the field, and three of her buckets were 3-pointers. 

Kelsey Criner added seven rebounds and seven assists for North Texas.
