Then, two months ago, she thought of the perfect Father's Day gift. She'd get Dad a college degree. This afternoon, Kenneth Shepherd becomes the oldest member of the University of Missouri Class of 2008. Two school officials are coming to his home outside Austin to present the engineering diploma that eluded him 71 years ago when he failed a compulsory speech course. He always regretted his academic failure and never revealed it to Sue or her brother, Bill. (Non-UNT story)
