When an insurance adjuster looked at the mangled car that Austin Pille of Nevada, Texas, had been riding in with friends, he asked how many people died.

Remarkably, the three people inside survived, but they didn’t all walk away.

“We were ... on the service road and hit a dip going really fast and lost control,” said Austin, 18. “We hit a pole and flipped three times.”

Austin is now paralyzed from the chest down; he was the only one riding in the back seat.

Austin plans to attend the University of North Texas.
