University of North Texas hits record enrollment for second year in a row

For the second year in a row, the University of North Texas has posted a record for student enrollment with a 2 percent increase over last year.

Total enrollment hit 37,973 students this school year, the university said this week in a news release. The school welcomed its largest ever incoming freshman class of 4,773 students.

UNT's student body is growing more diverse as well, school officials said. Since last year, enrollment of black students is up 4.2 percent, American Indian increased 7.2 percent, Asian/Pacific Islander grew 4.2 percent and Hispanic...

Tarrant County College, UNT reach out after ITT closure

Tarrant County College has announced an education fair for the 500 students affected by the recent closing of ITT Technical Institute in Arlington.

Meanwhile, the University of North Texas in Denton is helping out by enrolling qualified students for fall and and spring classes. UNT has undergraduate degree programs specifically designed to accept 45 or more credits transferred from technical programs, including ITT Technical Institute.

Little Elm ISD top 20 percent students to receive automatic admission into UNT

High school can be stressful, but the University of North Texas is working to alleviate some of the stress for parents and students alike by offering instant admission into UNT to select students in the district. 

On Friday, LEISD Superintendent Lowell Strike will sign an agreement to officiate that offer by entering the district into UNT’s Eagle Advantage program, which guarantees admission to all juniors and seniors in the top 20 percent of their class who apply to UNT.  Juniors can only apply toward the end of the school year.

Scuttled loan program forces college student to seek aid elsewhere

Repeal of a no-interest college loan program will have hundreds of incoming students looking for other ways to pay for higher education this year.

Lexi Clark, an incoming freshman at the University of North Texas this fall, was second on a waiting list of more than 400 incoming UNT students hoping to receive the loan that covers $4,000 in tuition each semester.
